Key Experience
  • Steve’s experience spans litigation, advisory, and policy engagements across multiple practice areas.

    • Led a team of legal experts in successfully petitioning the supreme court on its jurisdiction to entertain matters that involve interpretation or application of the constitution.
    • Part of the legal team that successfully persuaded the Court of Appeal that a company director is not an employee absent of a contract of service; ousting the jurisdiction for Employment and Labour Relations Court and setting precedent.
    • Part of a team of legal litigants on a complex constitutional property and environmental litigation in a petition touching on Traditional Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous persons rights to land ownership and access to information. The Superior Court affirmed the community’s right to land and ordered government to delineate forest boundaries and issue titles within 12 months, imposing a minimum of 30% tree cover requirement and recognition of the infringement of the community’s right of access to information linking national duties to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ rights on reparations.
    • Successfully argued election petitions in the Superior and Supreme Courts setting novel precedent on electoral processes.
